BIO

After completing my degree at Edinburgh College of Art I worked in London as an illustrator for several years before commencing a career in teaching Art. Moving to the beautiful North Essex countryside in 2018 revitalised my love of painting. In my landscapes I seek to convey the light and textures of the countryside around me. My compositions are designed to make the onlooker feel as though they could walk into and through the painting. My still-lifes celebrate beautiful objects and textures. Flowers and blue china are a particular favourite of mine. Portraiture and identity have always fascinated me. I am constantly experimenting with settings, gestures, and compositions to best express the character of my subject. I recently painted a series of portraits of NHS heroes initiated by the artist Tom Croft. I was honoured to have my portrait of the young doctor Michael featured in the online exhibition and the stunning book ‘NHS Portraits for Heroes’ published by Bloomsbury. I have exhibited in the Mernier Gallery , London and the Castlegate Gallery in Cockermouth. My landscape 'Stepping out of Summer' is currently short-listed for the Royal Academy's Summer show 2022. My first solo exhibition was at Church Street Gallery (Saffron Walden) in 2019 and subsequently in 2021.
